Camp NaNoWriMo 2019

As those who follow my Twitter or Facebook will know, I decided to get some more words added to my draft of TW by participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. Since I had so much trouble writing the 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo last November, and since you can choose your own word goal for Camp NaNo, I decided to go for 25,000. Surely, I thought, half the amount of words means half the struggle. (Optimism, my friends, is a dangerous beast.)

(For those who are unfamiliar with it, NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month – is a website and writing community in which people try to write a given amount of words in the span of a month. November for the official one with 50k words, July for the Camp with your personal word goal.)

As always, no matter how hard I tried, I kept falling behind in the daily word aim, and I needed an exhausting last-minute sprint to finally get to the end of it. How come that when given the same time span, 25k is just as hard to write as 50k? I suppose inspiration is to blame. Sometimes it’s there, and sometimes it isn’t. (Inspiration is a fickle beast that is hard to tame. Some would even say it is impossible. Only time will tell.)

I managed to get there in the end, so I get to keep this lovely certificate as a keepsake – and there are 25,000 more words added to my first draft. That is the most important thing after all 🙂
